You want to cut to length and cut off the old weld in a lathe to keep things straight. Make sure to clock the two parts correctly by using two straight edges though the u-joint holes/saddles. Blades from combination squares work great. Weld. Install.

Truck on blocks, Rev it up in 4th gear to check for balance vibes. Hit-or-miss dynamic balance by using a hose clamp as a weight that you can change clocking on. It might take 4-5 tries. Replace hose clamps(s) with washers tack welded on. (it's the screw part of the clamp that is the added weight)

For a deee-luxe job, see if it wobbles. Straighten it as if it were body metal- use an acetylene torch to heat a spot the size of a dime red hot. Let cool naturally.

It ain't rocker science or Nucular weelding.
