Good enough explanation that gets the point across. It's actually a bit more technical than that as the first letter refers to certain year/s of manufacture and the second letter refers to certain models within the year/s, then the numbers after that refer to the wheelbase and load rating. Where it gets tricky is the Chrysler model codes for civilian production V for '39 and C for 1/2 ton, where W covered '40 through '47 as there were no major changes, where the military trucks used T for the '39, then V for the '40 model, with W for '41 through '45.
