Toyota installed the 3VZE 3.0 liter V6 along with the 22RE motors from 1989-1995 (also known as the 3rd generation trucks). The 3.0 has electronic fuel injection, so not so many vacuum hoses are necessary. The trucks also came with optional vacuum operated "ADD" front axles, and independent front suspension. If you don't have lockout hubs, then you have the vacuum operated 4WD system, which engages the front diff by sliding a splined collar to connect one of the axle shafts to the spider gear. The TC is still a mechanical shift. The 3.0 engine was underpowered and not the best design, but I got 250,000 out of mine before I had to repower my truck. Otherwise the trucks are very reliable and easy to work on. All the parts weigh 1/3 to 1/2 what PW parts do :) If it runs, I'd take it.
