I bought an '85 Toyota from Az., which was a mistake. They don't have smog checks and California does. So, the smog system was pretty neglected and the hoses mis-routed.

As you noted, the 80's trucks are full of hoses and smog devices. But, after quite a bit of head scratching and studying the manual, I was able to figure it out. The truck was made in the days before computers so everything was pretty much vacuum operated Rube Goldlberg devices which you could figure out.

But you are right, trucks like that in poor condition are not worth messing with, especially if you have to pass a local smog check. I suspect all the early Toyota trucks with carburetion were that way.
