A very simple way is to put a volt meter on the battery with the engine off. I should read about 12.6 volts. Start the engine and it will go to something like 14.4 volts.
We dont know the amount of charge, but this will tell you quickly if the alternator is dead or alive. You can also take it to one of the auto parts chain stores and they can spin it up and load it, to see if its putting out the charge its rated to do.
