A slightly weak spark won't fire the full throttle mix. Might be a bad condenser, points set too wide (not enough 'dwell' to re-saturate the flux in the coil at high speed. Honest.), bad coil, or coil wired backwards. (+) to + of battery, via ign switch, unless neg ground.
It's similar to fuel delivery problems. Mixed them up so many times, I'm bald from tearing my hair out.
