I can't remember what the little device is actually called but it is replaceable, it is mounted inside the distrb just like points would be and the rotor passes by it to trigger the spark. I call it a proximity switch but it may simply be a 'pickup'check with your local parts house, they should have all the info on the exact part you need. Good luck, JR
