I bought a 3 bolt non-solenoid starter for my LA318 a couple months ago. CarQuest #5222-S, 9 tooth pinion, fits a 172 tooth flywheel, $117 including core charge and shipping. Rebuilt of course. The motor housing is slightly different than the ones on the late WM300s, but it engages the flywheel perfectly. I found several similar starters online, but it was cheaper to buy local. The link will take you to one of the online places, check out the cross reference numbers half way down. The Prestolite MDU7006 and MDU7013 seem to interchange, I forget which one I have in my WM300.
