Heat the arm itself up in your kitchen oven.
Bake for 20 minutes at 450 degrees, grab it quickly with pliers and put it on the box, make sure you use the nut to push it on a far as possible. After it cools, then you can remove the nut and mess with washers or locknuts.
By the way, you can buy a "half width locknut" and skip the washer.
Don't let your wife know about the car repairs in the oven. I tried that once.
