When I did my M37, I blasted all of the bolts and nuts. I wont reuse lock washers so they were new. After assembling stuff, I took an artist brush and brushed on primer, then later brushed on 2 coats of paint. It was a pain, but it worked. I have a set of the plastic socket inserts, but I preferred to do it this way.
Others will have their own methods.
