Well my new plasma cutter arrived today. Big ol box sitting at the shop door when I got back from a jobsite. Whoo hoo!
Got the little bits attached to it and fired her up and took a chunk out of a Power Wagon frame that was nearby. Wow, this is going to be a huge improvement over the oxy accetylene torch.
The advice that I got when I asked about plasma cutters was 1: buy as large a unit as you can, size it bigger than you ever think you need. And, 2: Buy an American unit.
Unfortunately, for me, those bits of advice, while good, were to me mutually exclusive. An American made unit that fit my budget would be great for sheetmetal, whereas a similarly priced import, will cut way more than I need at this point. So, the import won. I researched several makes, and liked what I saw with Longevity. I ended up with their ForceCut 80i. 5 year warranty, consumables are compatible with the American units and available locally.
Like David Sherman said, "I would rather use my Harbor Freight plasma cutter than the one I dont have"
So, there it is! I cant wait to take it for a bigger spin soon.
