As others have said, the M37 has a better write-up for reassembling the differential. It also has a section for testing the preload in the outer pinion bearing set, which has save my bacon a time or two.
As for supporting the third member, I use a 5 gallon bucket and lid. I cut out the lid so the nose of the third member drops in, and the bolt flange rests on the rim. It takes a couple tries at cutting and fitting, but I've used it for years and it's held up quite well. I cut a hole in the side of the bucket to insert a wrench to turn the yoke when necessary. It's not glamorous, but it works!
