They work by having the oil spread onto the fibers, then the dirt gets stuck in the oil on the fibers. There is a rinsing action of oilo that keeps the fibers cleaned. Dirt ends up in the bottom. Dump the oil, clean out the basin as well as rinsing the fibers, refill to oil level line, and back to work.
