As pointed out, the oil leak can be permanently fixed with a sleeve. Rebuilding the differential doesn't have any affect on a leaking seal.

Are you experiencing problems with the differential? If not, drive it until you do have problems. These differentials can last a long time and I don't think a preemptive differential rebuild on these trucks is worth it. Especially, the idea of rebuilding a spare set of differentials which you will never need.

I have both a 4.89 and a 5.83 truck, and for most people, I don't think the change is worth the money unless you plan to do a lot of driving.
