Fuel gauge sender resistance

In my WC63 I have a new replacement fuel gauge that I installed. I don't have a sender yet as everyone seems to be out of stock or the price is quite high. I played around with some resistors today and found the gauge works at these values... Full = 170 ohms, 1/2 tank = 350 ohms, 1/4 tank = 560 hms, empty (but needle just moves) = 700 ohms. I ordered a universal fuel sender but it's values are 33 ohm full and 280 ohm empty. This obviously will not read with my gauge. If I install a 400 ohm resistor in series with my sender that should enable the tank to read a true empty value but the gauge will then only show about 1/2 full max when the tank is actually full. I know I can't get both ends of the gauge to read correctly with this sender but I can't find any senders on line that have this higher valve resistance needed for my gauge. Does anyone have a working stock WC sender and could they measure the values if possible. The truck is stock 6volt as well. If I install a trim pot would that be more reliable than a single resistor is series?. Is the stock sender really that high in resistance or is my gauge wacky?. Terry
