I understand that's Michelin's marketing strategy to scare folks into buying their brand of radial tube but I can tell you first hand that the regular radial tubes work great.
I'm not saying the Michelin tube isn't better...it may very well be but the other brands work excellent as well & I've never had a flat due to a tube issue.
But all that said, I think it's generally recognized that a radial tube should be used inside a radial tire...it's the flaps we're talking about & so you're creating confusion here Michael.
Michelin, CGarbee's Tire/Tube/Flap Website, Universal Tire & Kaltire here in Canada all say to be sure to install a radial flap with your radial tube & that our bias flaps won't work. Now you're saying a flap is a flap?
I'm not saying it can't be done & in fact I'm sure it will work just fine for a while but I'm wanting to know why the tire manufacturers say not to use them...to the point that Universal Tire wouldn't even sell me their flaps for safety reasons??
See everyone just wants to buy the right product. To me, I could care less whether Universal supplies one flap or another so long as it will work best for my application & the price for the one they are trying to sell me doesn't seem grossly inflated. You are constantly hammering on folks to read the manual & follow Michelin's advice but here you're telling us to ignore Michelin's advice & a flap is basically a flap.
You see the confusion?
