#1Start with distributor point gap.*
#2 ignition timing, best to set engine on timing mark using number six head plug and depth gauge and test light on points, rotate distributor for initial timing. After you get it running well you can go to a timing light.
#3 mess with carburetor adjustments last.
* easiest to have the distributor on the bench with the vacuum advance on the stop. then check the point gap thru the range of the vacuum advance if it has one.
Try to find an old motors manual that explanes all of this in detail at the antique store.
