The solenoid behind the pump will solve your problem as you mentioned.
They are a real pain to get in and out though but doable with patience
There's very little room between the pump and engine block.
I think it's a poor design.
The bolts that hold the bracket to the pump are large metric and very short.
Can't remember the exact size.
Make sure you get them with the bracket.
