I think if you think about preserving your truck it depends upon which part of the country you live. I grew up in Colorado. You could drive a truck with some rust for almost ever and the rust never did much damage. Where I live in Florida rust turns into big holes. No kidding if you park a unrestored truck outside it would be totally destroyed by rust in 15 years. My truck came fro me Colorado and Nebraska and was in great shape. However when you take it apart you found many areas that needed work to stop rust decay I had to paint. Turns out painting was fun and not near as expensive as I thought. It took five times more work and hours than I could have imagined. I ended up enjoying the body work and paint And to me it's still a truck you can scratch and drive thru the woods. That is once I get it all back together.
