For driveshafts I start with a hose clamp. Finish up by welding washers on.

For the 10,000 rpm woodcutting shaper I got lucky, a headed bolt replaced the set screw.

But welds don't always stick to cast iron. I would go with drilling holes most of the way through. 3, 1/2" dia. But that is permanent, better get right location.
