I got the NP435 e-brake drum this morning from an NP540. The brake and drum are the same as the NP435, BUT, the yokes are different spline. The NP540 has something like ten BIG splines, compare to the NP435's (32? 29?) that I need. Oh, well. For $10, I'm not complaining a bit!

I also grabbed a bad LA 318 crankshaft that had spun a rod bearing. I'm going to measure the crank flange thickness, and if it's the .400" or so thickness of Ray's flywheel spacer, I'm going to cut it off and machine it on a lathe at work Monday. It will be as close to perfect as I can get, but it still won't quite work. LA 318 cranks have a "notch" in the crank flange, between two bolt holes. It would probably throw the 360's balance even MORE off from what it was. Then again, it could work in favor of balancing the 360. I won't know, because as soon as I get it done, IF everything looks good, I'll take it to a local tool & die shop and have them make me one without the notch.

I talked to Mike (the previous owner of said pieces) for a bit today, and he said he'd seen two guys put 360s in their Sweptlines before. One guy took the balance weights off a 360 torque converter and welded them to his flywheel. The other just used the Mopar balancing schematic, inverted it, drew the holes on the flywheel with marker, put the engine in the truck, kept the inspection shield off the tranny, and welded a bead on it. He started the truck. He crawled back under it and welded another bead. He started it again. He just kept welding until he felt no vibration. Redneck? Absolutely! But hey, it worked! Haha.
