Why did Hurst stuff 426 Hemis into perfectly good 1968 slant-six Darts and Barracudas, slice them up, remove any creature comforts, and consider it an improvement? Why did one gentleman stuff a 528 Hemi into a PT Cruiser? Why not just toss a 440 into the scrap pile because it needs a .030" overbore, because installing new pistons wouldn't be original? Why bother restoring a 440-6 Challenger if they discontinued Goodyear Polyglas tires, and the repops aren't the real thing? It comes down to personal opinion and taste. Would I want a fire-breathing 413 in a '50 Power Wagon with drag slicks, an NV5600, and cruise control if all I wanted to do was use it to haul wood? Of course not. My '50, as it sits now, is 99% stock, save for wheels, tires, fan, carburetor, and distributor. To pull down a house or haul wood, it's perfect. To drive 35 miles to see my sister? No way, José. If I had a choice, I'd own thirty Power Wagons and have each one different. I have two, and can't afford to do much to either. But they're my boys, and for me to enjoy them as much as I can, I need to change a few things. Otherwise, I need to quit my job after 20 years and just haul wood up the hill every day. As much as I HATE Generic Motors and Fjord, I still give credit when one is done right. I don't own a high horse, and I refuse to sit on anyone else's, either. To each their own, regardless of what others think. It's healthy for us to have pet peeves, otherwise we'd all be the same. But Bill, I'll bite the bullet and agree with you about electric fuel pumps for once- the one I put on my truck died within a month. I went back to original, and it's ran perfectly fine since. However, if I had a spare Mallory pump laying around...
