I've had a few epiphanies lately, and my noggin's full, so it's time to toss them out on here. Regardless of what I end up doing, I'm still going to finish gathering parts to do something or another to the truck. Here's what all I'm still needing, and if any of you guys want to part with one that you don't need, now's as good of a time for me as it's going to get (i.e Tax Time!). I still need a WC centered differential yoke and drum(?) for my transfer case, flywheel spacer (more on that in a bit), NP435 lever adapter bracket (maybe, if Dave doesn't find his), front kingpin Dana 60 (or even just a good bare housing or inner C's), good Poly starter, and the drum/yoke assembly for the old-style NP435 output shaft bearing retainer. I MIGHT have the NP435 drum/yoke lined up, as long as it's the same as the NP540 setup. I won't know until I either check this weekend, or someone tells me. Also, I'd really like to find a nice bare frame, if it's fairly close by (Ron? Duane? You guys know of any around?) to slip under my '54, as it's sprung, bobbed, and delaminating badly. I wouldn't need springs, running gear, or the like. Those, I could use from my junk frame or parts stash. Anyway, here are the few things that I'd like to find out, if you guys could help me out:

I was going to take my 360 flywheel, my Poly one, and the balance schematic to the local tool & die machine shop this week to have the Poly one drilled to the 360 balance. As a precaution, I weighed both of them at work, to make sure removing 19.79 in. oz. would be right and not too much/too little, due to the difference in weight between the two. Well, the 360 one weighed in at exactly 37 pounds. The Poly one- exactly 32 pounds. Now, I have absolutely no idea how much 19.79 inch pounds is, but it can't be five pounds. I don't have an LA 318 flywheel to compare either of them to, so I am stuck, and thinking I'm going to end up having to get a flywheel spacer and just use the 360 one. Is there a good machine shop that COULD figure out the math and get the Poly one balanced right? On that same theme, here's my next question...

Ray's flywheel spacers were .400" thick. Does anyone know how thick the LA and Poly flywheels are at the crank flange, or exponentially better, how thick the crank flange itself is? My thinking (scary, I know) is that one could just take an old, junk, forged crank and cut the flange off, true it on a lathe, and use IT as a spacer. I'd think a cast crank would work, but forged is of course stronger. Shaking your heads (or fingers) at me yet? Okay. Last one. I promise...

Because my '50 (and '54, actually) sits higher than normal, due to the 39.5" tires on it, the cross thoughted my mind about shackle extensions. Mandatory? Nope. It drives and looks fine as-is. But, I've noticed some shackles, like from an ambulance, are longer than the stock ones on my truck. Would they be a direct swap? I'm curious, as I can grab a set or two of them fairly cheap at the moment. If they're truly unnecessary, then they'll just be another thought. But, I'll gladly get them if you guys think I should. Now, I'll bow out. How the heck you all and my wife put up with me, I'll never know. I'm sure glad you do, though!!!
