Tim is correct all gas whether it is Exxon, Mobil, Shell etc. it all goes to the same hub and sell to wholesalers they sell to jobber's who sell to retailers who set the prices what they want for their gallon of gas above the jobber's daily set price.
In years past the refinery be it Shell, Exxon, Mobil etc. used to deliver it to their respective stations when they owned them. Now a days 95% of stations are owned by independent retailers.
In addition if one retailer sells say 10,000 gallons a month and another one sells 1,000 gallons a month the retailer that sells the most pays the least for his gas, who sells it retail for less.
Simple HUH! Anyway you look at it the consumer gets screwed in the end.
