I do. I worked in the truck manufacturing industry in 1957 and 1959.

Most of us who were "car guys" in the fifties and sixties watched the advertising industry tell us what to buy and drive. Mostly this meant those models that had the highest profit.

Starting around 1958, not only was the FFPW in competition with Ford and the GMC twins, it had to compete with the “W” series Dodges. Those Dodges had seemingly endless power train and style options. Remember when Don Knotts was the spokesman for Dodge trucks? Why not “Gorgeous George”? He represented the FFPW better. I’ll try to be Politically Correct and point out that Don best represented the “comfort and convenience options” and not say “less manly”.

Four wheeling was not just for work any more. It had expanded into the recreational arena. And the hard truth was that the “comfortable and convenient” trucks were close to the FFPW in their ability on the job.
