Gordon don't get the 4.10 gears. I was in the same situation in 1998 as you are now. My first choice was for the 6 speed with the Cummins and I was planning on getting the 4.10 gears. They kept putting off the release time for the 6 speed and I couldn't wait any longer. I tried to order but all the dealers used up all thier Cummins allotments on what I didn't want. I finally found a dealer that would search to find what I wanted. 2500 4x4 4 door short box locker trailer package 4.10 blah blah. So it came with the 3.55 and an automatic. My plans were for a goose neck hitch to pull my 30 foot bed 3 axle to support my PW/Milt. vehicle habit. Figuring on the trans as the weak link I bought the 100,000 mile warrenty on the drive train. well the Auto is doing well and I'm glad the truck came with the 3.55 gears. If you run out of power go to direct. and that isn't often.
