Yes, with expensive adapters you can use the diesel version which also has a better gear split. However the diesel version is much larger than the gas'er version. The ZF-S%42 uses a integral bell house. On the diesel version, the top 2 horizontal mounting holes are 7.750 center to center. On the Gas'er version that spacing is 5.125" as shown it the picture. The gas'er version will bolt right up to the OEM Cummins/Ford Adapter.

I have been told and also read on different forums that the Diesel gear set can be swapped into the Gas'er case very easily. However, I have not seen this done in person so I dont know the validity of that talk.
