That's funny, I don't remember getting the article from you. I think what un-puffs the cops is the prospect of losing lots federal funding and federal cooperation if they don't enforce federal law. On the other hand they do have discretion about how they choose to prioritize their limited resources. They don't have to go to any extra trouble to help the feds out or be any extra friendly with the feds. They should, however, keep quiet about their opinions.
The felon thing must be somewhat flexible because I know an ex-felon (fraud -- swindled somebody) who did not lose his gun rights. I asked him about it and he said they only take away gun rights of felons convicted of violent crimes. If that's what they do, I'm all for it. Anyone who was ever a gang-banger should lose their gun rights, at least until they straight up and fly right and can prove it to a judge.
