Radiant floor heat is great. Depending on how much and what your current heating system is I can give some suggestions there. If your going a closed loop via a heat exchanger I'd make that section(shop) with antifreeze from the start so shut downs would not be a concern in cold weather.

I'd go with a minumum of 6 inches of concrete and I'd HIGHLY suggest 1/2 rebar 16 inches on center. Makes it easy to tie the tubes to and any cracks with shifts will make your floor junk. Make sure to tie the WHOLE slab as one. Sections can move, pinching the tubes off and make a lot of heartache. Insulate under the slab as well too.

If your planning on anything to be bolted to the floor, figure out where. I drew a detailed map of my runs for that reason.

The slickest lift is where you have I beams running the length of the building near the ceiling with another I beam spanning the distance. Beam is supported by posts along the sidewalls. For 50' wide you'd probably be better off to have a center rolling support. I built my own hoist in the pick below but that was before I saw the system mentioned above. It would be SO much nicer as you save a LOT of space and lots more versatile.

Make plans for ventilation for welding and fabbing.

Oh yea, Electrical outlets everwhere!
