When I ran out of creosote containg cosmoline I switched to asphaltic roof coating (non-fibrated) thinned just enough to spray with mineral spirits sprayed with a paint pot setup.
Stinks like he!! till it drys andwears like iron. Respray every couple years in the fender wells for added protection.
You want it off you grind it off!
