Nick, How the process works from the State and maybe Ken W can add to it , when the State sends out request forms to all the prior event holders from the previous years, they ask to prioritize 10 different slots for the 2013 calender that you would like to have your event. I received the package in Dec and returned it to them asap with the prioritized dates. When they send out the 2013 calenders there are blocks all ready taken so June had the most time available and that is what I worked towards as a lot of families can't attend with their kids being in school. The reserved or blocked days are given to events that bring additional monies to the State in the form of outside vendors at these events paying additional fees so the State "makes a profit" so to speak.
To keep it simple we don't try to make a profit, we try to cover our cost and look at it as a hobby instead of a business.Last year I asked Larry Less what he thought about raffling a FFPW at the rally. He spent time and researched the legalities and it can be done but it becomes more of a business then a hobby.
So with all that said I figured that 6 months notice is about as good as we can plan on at this point so keep your fingers crossed that fire season well be good to you this year.
