If you are involved in an accident in an M37, you're going to stop a lot quicker than in a modern unibody car with computer-designed crumple zones, and your head is going to hurt a lot more when it hits that very hard non-padded dashboard than if it hit a modern padded dash. I don't think it's at all foolish to install seat belts in an M37, especially for a child passenger.
