Get yourself a vixen file . You can do your rough shaping with the thing once the mud has set up - saves on paper .
(1) good flat vixen file
(2) Vixen file handle
(3) quality mud - talc free
(4) good quality sand paper
(5) several sanding blocks of different sizes
after that you are on your own , board sanders or DS sander , just forget using the belt sander .......
