I do agree with you that more info is needed to help him out.

I normally tell people to stick with a bigger name machine such as Hobart, Miller. Put a major factor of which has a true welding supply house that both stocks some parts AND has a good repair department.

Most welding machines have a place. you just have to decide what YOU expect of it to narrow the decision.
