"Up To" tranny input shaft

I'm going to switch out my '49 "up to" non-synchro tranny for a '58 NP 420 while I rebuild it. Is the input shaft dia & spline count the same on both transmissions, or do I need a different clutch disc? It would be nice to know this before dicovering 1/2 way thru the switch...
