I did do some head scratching over the project, I think Bryan's will only work with the hard to find studs that are 7/16 on the axle end and 3/8" on the nut end. So, not functional for other hub designs that don't have a thin flange. Long bolts with big heads won't fit through the holes/cut outs and I don;t think wrenches will either.

So far as strength goes, my design has more metal inside of the pipe. The heavy walled sleeves will help prevent the 'tube' crushing inwards.

Though after I finished that prototype, it occurred to me to cut down the 'castle walls'. That would leave Grade Five rock scratcher bolt heads as the farthest protuberances. Might look a bit neater, and would allow anydarn bolt head to work. As well as anydarn wrench.
