I went through this same thing recently. Thought the air compressor supplied route was great till I heard what others have said here. Yes, it is a lot of money but what good is having a truck if you're messed up or even dead. I bit the bullet and got a Hobby Air from the link below.
Takes a little getting used to but not bad at all. For Ron, I DID where glasses under mine and it works fine. With the constant pressure aspect, any small cracks are where air is going OUT so it's not an issue. These paints anymore aren't what your Dad used to spray. Some of it is pretty nasty and doesn't take much to really mess you up. It's just not worth the risk to me.
