I did the M37 tranny (NP420) swap into my 1951 PW. It is a straight bolt in. I used the top of a civilian NP 420 tranny. If you have a later M37 tranny you can swap in just the shift lever. Both tops need to have the retaining ring that hold the shift lever in not the one that uses a pin to hold the shift rod in.
