Since vac only works when you have vacuum, it does nothing for power. It will help with gas mileage or light throttle power. But you may not notice any improvement. You might get the same mileage but go 2mph faster?

Flat heads can use a distributor recurve, but they are a pita. I think they ping from too much retard as well as too much advance. Bascally, they were set up for 10,000gvw and 65 octane. Much room for improvement.

I worked at the Dyno Shop- 30 years ago. But as line mechanic, not in the tune up end. But I did manage to recurve my 230 dist at home with a knob-on-the-back timing light and a tachometer. I did find specs on the net that I can post. I'll go dig them up and get back here. I think I can find them...

Using a timing light and tach, I only had the dist in and out a dozen times. Many test drives in between. But it was necessary to get the /6 mod dialed in for the flatty.
