A friend of mine built a pretty neat deal for supplemental heat in his shop space but it only works during the day and when you have adequate sun exposure. He built a shallow box from a combunation of 4x8x3/4" plywood and 2x6's with a plexiglass sheet on the entire front. Inside the box, the sides and bottom are all painted black and some black offset baffles are placed on about 24" centerswith an one end being about 12" short of the width of the box. He then cut a hole in the bottom of the plexiglass and the back of the plywood at the top and installed a couple of plain old house register vents that you can close off. The entire contraption hangs on the side of his shop and there is a small fan inside up by the ceiling to help draw through but otherwise, convection does most of the work, he then uses the ceiling fans in his shop to keep air moving. I didn't believe it, but the air coming out of the top of the box was over 100 degrees when the sun was at its most intense during the day, even if it is a low volume of air moving through, it sure made a difference!
