Never had #6 rod bad?

But I doubt that the offset rods were the cause, since all of the rods are offset.

But the siamesed cylinders have to have deficient cooling.

I suspect the #6 prob may be poor cooling via the water distribution tube.

But the "long stroke = bad" meme has been around for ever. Perhaps it is a stroke:rod length issue? Short rods will have a more extreme rod angle. And maybe, as long as our rods are, the ratio of length to stroke is not enough, making extreme rod angle? But rod angle has lots to do with the pin end too. I know the high block 440 has better longevity because of it's longer rods.

But hot rodders have been modifying oiling systems for years too. First mod I heard, 35 years ago, was to restrict the oil flow out of the middle crank throws, so they don't starve good ol' #6. And the HAMB guys do other crank oiling tricks.

But it may be merely the combined weight of the piston and rod. Modern racers go to extreme lengths to lighten that stuff up. Hollow rods and titanium pins frinstance.
