Good point. I have wondered about this possibility. When I bought the alternator, the shop provided a pulley that was similar in diameter to the old generator pulley. However the new pulley is a little narrower, so the belt does not seat down inside the pulley.
Again, the question is: Why did everything work so well for 5 or 6 months and then start acting up?
