Back about '81. I first went to a Holley 1bbl from a /6, for a gain of about 5 hp, from 49 up to 55. Then later did headers and 2bbl for another few HPs. (different engine, different dyno)

I think if I were prioritizing, I'd say this order:

1) Larger carb or two.

2) headers

3) cam and valve springs, whenever engine gets torn down. Maybe a /6 cam grind? and springs with mmm 60-70# of seat pressure. IIRC, stock is 35?

And as it breathes bigger gulps, it will need diffent advance curves in the dist too.

BUT, that durn engine design will limit HP with the head design and Siamesed ports, and also longevity with it's offset rods. And the water jacket design probably can't handle the neat of higher power- you can't make horses without burning gas.
