They never were common, but there used to be a sheet brass spacer. Like a hollow ring of brass. ( I wonder if there isn't a carb float that works?)

I make my own out of 1/2" thick aluminum. Plus a cork or rubber gasket goes in first. I saw the OD as an octagon, there needs to be a fluid path out the overflow port. Wood cutting band saws work pretty good on aluminum.
