I went on a trip with a friend who rented a minivan. At the rental, I did a walk around. Two fluids low, one of the seats was jammed in the removal track, and I got to tell all of this to the manager with his two "prep" guys sitting in his office drinking coffee. My friend was a pretty important customer to them, and you should have seen the look he gave the two in the office as I walked out. They were pretty quiet as they fixed what was wrong. Since I did that, my friend does a walk around on his car and any one he rents- it was a good lesson for four people that day.
I have to credit the first guy I flew with for my thorough walk around habits. It has saved my life a time or two- literally.
