Yes the Baldwin JC405 is a cartridge type. It looks just like the NAPA 1011 (sock type) - only it fits correctly.
There is also a current hard cartridge that supposedly fits the JC canister (looks like a porknbean can poked full of holes) - Wix 51252. I have not bought one of these to verify that they work. But, it was popular for some of Deluxe's competitors to make hard cartridge replacements for the JC canister back in the day.
