I had a GM car come in on the hook. Seems the owner had tuned it up, and now it cut off every time the speed raised above idle. Dwell good, idle speed good. Seems the system was a ported spark advance. When ever the throttle valves opened, a bit, the vacuum advance would pull the breaker plate around, until the points touched the inside of the dist housing and killed it. Excellent governor, but set too low to be practical. The correct set of points fixed it.

Our Dodges can have a similar trouble when the vacuum advance pulls the breaker plate forward, and 'wiggles' the primary lead at the through hull fitting. It was why my green 5-window was bought in a non-running state, cheaply. Cheap fix too.
