Tom, I don't know about the flywheel, but here's some info on the starters. I talked with Dave Cirillo this evening, and he set me straight on a couple things.

The picture I posted on 11/8 was of starters that are used on M37s ONLY. I ASSumed that there were mini starters that would work on the 318/360 hydraulic bellhousing, but I was wrong.

I have a 15" flywheel with 172 tooth ring gear on a 318 engine with a hydraulic bellhousing. The original starter uses three bolts to mount to the bell. According to Dave any of the 12 volt WM300 style starters will fit right in, using only two of the three bolt holes, and will mesh with the 172 tooth ring gear. These starters are Bendix style, with a remote solenoid. This is good news, as long as the motor housing of the WM starter is narrower than the one I have now. I will have to measure and find out.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. I'm just learning this stuff myself.
