Hi Todd,
Not too sure exactly how that 6.2 controller works but I am hesitant to put anything 6.2 related onto a Cummins ;)
I think the 6.2 Controller is very similar to the 1st Gen setup...just not as good of quality. If you look at the 6.2 relay, it's just a starter relay & I suspect that other gadget they use is just a temp switch. So the Cummins has the same system except there are 2 relays & they're quite a bit fancier. I'm not 100% positive but I gather on the Dodge, the temp sensor tells the ECM it's too cold, the ECM tells the relay to send power to the grid heaters & it only allows the heaters to run for 10 seconds or whatever. then after the engine starts, the cycle continues until that temp sensor in the intake stays above 59F....I guess.
I think the only reason they want you to "Wait To Start" is because the grid heaters pull a heavy load, & so does the starter & so they basically want you to start it in between grid cycles.
I think the temp sensor on the Cummins is low voltage from the ECM...I don't think it's 12V but I'm no electrical genius :)
I think in the truck I'm talking about, a momentary switch to the factory relays is the way I'll be going & eliminate all that problematic crap. 10 seconds on the momentary switch, start the engine & if it's running rough...give it another shot until it runs smooth...problem solved. No?
