I leave everything unlocked all the time unless I'm going to be gone for more than a day. I leave my tool box in my truck unlocked all the time, whether I'm around or not. Last year someone's car got stolen and it was the front page lead story in the local paper. A few years ago my neighbors tweeker grandson stole a busted angle grinder, a small chain saw, and a bad extension cord out of my open garage. Now I try to remember to close the door most of the time. Still never lock it. A business in the neighboring town got burgled a few months ago, and the whole sheriff's department was on the case. Maybe once in 5 or 10 years we have a murder somewhere in the county. The main theft problem is tweekers stealing metal for scrap. I don't bother with door locks or ignition locks on my old rigs. Too much hassle to keep track of the keys, and nobody tries to steal them.

So yes, it's a lot better in Idaho. Of course everybody's armed and nobody shoots each other either.
